In a way it was welcomed that it was pouring down rain since Sunday night. And I mean, like constantly! Lucky me my workplace is my desk at home -- I only once had to visit my company this week. It was only light rain that day.
So every free minute of my time I was forced to stay home! But as I said, that was a good thing. How else would I have discovered these beautiful shumps if not from at home..
Shmups? Yeah, shmups. Shoot 'em Ups. I just learnt a new word. w00t.
This game started it all, on Sunday night. Dunno why or where I found it, but I did. And YES! it is good. Highly addictive though. Basically, you control a tiny space ship and fight bosses. And these bosses get bigger and bigger from stage to stage, and they evolve, according to your way of playing and defeating them. Very slick concept. Download link
Another game by BinaryZoo, and again crazy. You're this tiny "ship" in the middle of the screen, shooting both up and down. Enemies are coming from both sides, natch. The clue: you can rotate your ship around. This makes sense, as your both sides level individually. Needless to say this can get pretty colourful again. Download link
Grid Wars 2, the clone to Game: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, that got so popular that the creator had to put it offline. But this is the internet, so it's still there. Anyway, this was probably the first shmup of this era that I found (a year ago or so), and I'm still playing it. And it was because of this game that I got the original as well. But, the clone is far better ;] Wikipedia link that has a download link
A Japanese shmup, incredibly easy to control (mouse only if you wish), loads of SFX, and lots of fun. But a bit short - it's only a trial version after all. Remember also, most of the text is in Japanese (well the config util is), but you should be alright with most of the settings. Download link
There's many that I don't have the pics of! Of course, but again, it's not that we can't find them, but rather because no-one has put them in yet. (There's 18180 games in our database right now, and only 2236 of them have box art, so you can imagine, it'll take a while.) ;]
But usually, it's the unknown games, and the old ones that are harder to find (and I'm talking 80's here, Atari and C64 games and the like). So if you got access to those, we'd appreciate it!
Sounds good! But what kinda box arts are we talking about? See, only box arts from many many years ago are usually hard to find. More current ones are freely available anywhere (there it's only a lack of manpower for not putting them all in)
