Wit from the mind!
FUCK and YEAH
FUCK
my HDD is about to die. Started throwing around BSODs since yesterday, things like "KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR". No that's not good, it could even be a bad SATA controller according to the status code. Today it wouldn't even reboot after another crash at first (with a nice message similar to "Primary Master Drive Error" after the POST screen). Later CHKDSK didn't report anything unusual though. However...
YEAH
I decided to upgrade! Trash my old HDD with old old WinXP and update to a 1TB HDD and fresh Win7. And while I'm at it, a blu-ray drive will be added too. After all, I need some things to feed my fullHD projector with, right?
Got the BR drive today, the rest will come on Monday. Fun.

06:// xrays
05:// collarbone broken
Yeah, guess most of you have already heard (thanks for the nice blog post ӝspot
), I broke my collarbone.
2 days ago we had some late snow which all melted away by the night and froze, just when I went home on my mtn bike - and slipped and crashed. Xrays said it' broken alright, and I'll have to have an operation next week, too :[
So now I'm on painkillers, waiting for Monday for my appointment in hospital. Needless to say, I won't be on much (typing takes me ages). But I'll keep you posted.
Update 1 (March 23)
My operation will be on Thursday, so I'll be in hospital from Wednesday to Saturday (if all goes well).
And thanks everyone for you well wishes, it's just a bit hard for me to answer to you all...
Update 2 (March 28)
And I am back! The operation on Thursday went well, Friday was rather shitty, but today is much better. So I'm back from the hospital, back home. Finally. Today was also the first day I felt right again after the accident. Still, I'll stay somewhat disabled for a couple of weeks, as my right arm is fixed to my body (the shoulder mustn't move). Sucks a bit, but can't be helped... So, I won't be able to handle vault stuff for a while, but it's only temporary of course!
X-rays will follow, btw, once I get the chance to photograph or scan them.

04:// About Portal and Mirror's Edge
Two years in a row, out comes a First Person Shooter that doesn't focus on the shooter part, is built on a popular game engine of other very popular FPS (HL2 and UT3), uses largely white colours, features a female protagonist who you only see via portals or mirrors (words that are i both games' titles) and who is only know by their monosyllabic first name (Chell and Faith, respectively), and has a signature theme song called "Still Alive" sung by a female singer. Now isn't this weird..
On a sidenote, I loved both games

Wipeout 2 PC Direct X Debug Log

Direct X ERROR:Line 01573
Access to this surface is being refused because the surface memory is gone.
The DirectDrawSurface object representing this surface should have Restore called on it.

Nice eh. This is what you get when you try to start a 1996 game built for win95 on XP. wipEout 2097 is the game in question. But oh, I did get it to work, in the end. However, it's dated. And it shows. Big time! Sooo, anyone knows something similar, new and fresh, and for the PC? (As much as I'd love to play Game: Wipeout HD, I don't own a PS3, and don't plan on buying one...)

02:// shmup madness [updates]
In a way it was welcomed that it was pouring down rain since Sunday night. And I mean, like constantly! Lucky me my workplace is my desk at home -- I only once had to visit my company this week. It was only light rain that day.
So every free minute of my time I was forced to stay home! But as I said, that was a good thing. How else would I have discovered these beautiful shumps if not from at home..
Shmups? Yeah, shmups. Shoot 'em Ups. I just learnt a new word. w00t.
Game: Warning Forever
This game started it all, on Sunday night. Dunno why or where I found it, but I did. And YES! it is good. Highly addictive though. Basically, you control a tiny space ship and fight bosses. And these bosses get bigger and bigger from stage to stage, and they evolve, according to your way of playing and defeating them. Very slick concept.

Game: Echoes
It's Game: Asteroids on steroids! But also a little bit like Game: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. Or a clone of both. But also highly addictive. And pretty colourful. Can get intense.

Game: DUO
Another game by BinaryZoo, and again crazy. You're this tiny "ship" in the middle of the screen, shooting both up and down. Enemies are coming from both sides, natch. The clue: you can rotate your ship around. This makes sense, as your both sides level individually. Needless to say this can get pretty colourful again.

Game: Grid Wars
Grid Wars 2, the clone to Game: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, that got so popular that the creator had to put it offline. But this is the internet, so it's still there. Anyway, this was probably the first shmup of this era that I found (a year ago or so), and I'm still playing it. And it was because of this game that I got the original as well. But, the clone is far better ;]

Wikipedia link that has a download link
Game: exception
A Japanese shmup, incredibly easy to control (mouse only if you wish), loads of SFX, and lots of fun. But a bit short - it's only a trial version after all. Remember also, most of the text is in Japanese (well the config util is), but you should be alright with most of the settings.

PS: Yes, these are free! Now go have fun :]

01:// about box art
Ok, here's the deal.
me:// I'm Napalm Riot's new official box art monkey, which means I add box art / covers too all the games you see around here (most notably in your game section: your favourites and your currently playing ones).
you:// If you come by any game that has NOT yet any box art, you note me! Or write me a comment, but a note is preferred. If it's just games in your profile, a link is enough, no need to list all your games individually.
me:// Once you've sent me a link I'll go through your games list and add them. Simple as that. :] Oh, just be patient please, it might take a day or two until all the covers are in.
you:// Enjoy your beautified list of games!
