Description:
Now, this might be darker than what $spot has in mind, but I went with it anyway and thought I'd go with the "a picture says more than 1000 words" line. Because the thing is, I just don't like bright designs. Flickr, last.fm, Digg, Facebook... Oh, Facebook is probably the worst of the lot. It's just white, with a hint of blue. It's anti-design. And it hurts my eyes. I have a big screen and I'm not going to turn down the brightness just for surfing web pages; I'd rather write a userstyle instead to make the site darker. OK, I did that. Err, enough with the rant and back on topic.
Napalm Riot (or soon Riot Core) needs a design, not an anti-design. We're gamers and we like shiny things. It's as simple as that. And before you say anything, I'm not saying the previous designs that have been submitted are anti-design or anything, no no no! They're all good, but too bright for my taste. But many good ideas; and a few parts were so good that I incorporated them into this design, like $spot's screenshot spotlight, which I put in here.
In closing: I tried to make this as bright as possible - at least the main content areas are. Hope you dig.
Oh, and Terry's Trench? Yeah, this might be wishful thinking at best, but still a riot* if we had it

idk.. Sounds all too "bleh" for me, sorry.
And "napalm" is too difficult a word to spell for many people, so there needs to be something else.
You know there is VGMdb - for video game music. But, like IMDb it's primarily a database (ok, with forums, but that's pretty much it). Sounds too corporate to me, not like a place where I'd like to hang out..

Haven't ignored this sir.
Been talking over the different submissions with Ryan (liquisoft) and getting impressions back etc.
You are right however, this is not bright enough.
I would like to see the current user information moved from the top bar to fill up the wasted space to the right of the header. We can't just not use that space. Something Ryan has complained about on the current design.
So yeah brighter, and better use of the header whitespace. These things are not my taste, but requirements for layout, etc.
Overall looks really cool.

Yeah, I can see the wasted space up there to be filled with the user info/menu.
re the brightness: can you tell me, is the actual content background bright enough, or it is it the rest that needs adjusting? I'm asking since I'm still working on this mockup, so I can incorporate this.
Off the record though, does it really need to be so bright, and why? Is the reasoning simply because most (currently) popular social network sites are bright (or in fact near white)? Is this a general rule we have to follow to attract more visitors? ... Sorry if this is the wrong place to talk about this, but I'm curious since you actually said 'These things are not my taste...'

I have to say i like this a lot. Bright just turns me off. I mean, even on facebook, now i just leave it on mafia wars (which has a dark interface) and almost never check anything else, a lot because it just hurts.
