Just a few weeks ago, Mobigame's EDGE returned to the App Store. Now, Tim Langdell is back. This time: Killer Edge Racing.

For those of you who aren't in the loop, Tim Langdell owns the trademark "Edge" and sues pretty much everybody who uses this word in their product's title. His actions earned him the title "trademark troll"; but he seems to keep enjoying his hobby, ignoring the fact that this time big players like Electronic Arts stepped up and engaged a legal action against him as well. (Remember, EA owns the game Mirror's Edge; and guess what, it was on Langdell's list as well.)

I think this guy is almost becoming the next jack thompson. It's stupid to register some really common word and then sue EVERYONE that uses it in a game. I really hope EA wins and that guy is stripped of his trademark and has to repay everyone the money he stole from them. I really wish i were a judge for cases like this.

Yeah that guy's a dick and a half...
But it makes me wonder, (aside from how dumb the system is to let people exploit "technicalities" of things like owning the word "edge") why haven't more people tried to do this with common words.

I guess the fear of being branded the biggest dick in the industry would probably keep most people at bay, but still...

Very true. But it's still happening. "Apple", "Windows", it's all trademarks too. Of course, only applied in their own specialized field, but still, it is pretty silly that you can actually "own" such a common name...

        hmm, too true...
hehe, maybe it only counts if it has the capital...
go around naming my stuff windows, mac, and edge...
course it wouldn't work on iPod... or i-anything for that matter... MY PLAN IS FLAWED!
