I remember going from that to a Doom map editor, and the '3D' part upped the complexity dramatically and I had no idea what was going on. Haha.

I have since do quite a bit of mapping in Hammer. Actually only a little in Hammer, but a lot more back when it was called Worldcraft.
I did a pretty cool thing with a counter-strike level I was working on. That was the original engine, not source.

Image have to format checked, converted, resized, converted again, etc.
With files like maps it mainly is a matter of virus scanning it and zipping it up. That's about it.
